Based on a Netflix Original
It’s 3:20 am and I have work to do hence the staying up late but guess what? Instead of giving my work a 100% commitment I watch a movie. At first thought, I thought it would be a typical cliche Christian movie but in the end, I learned a lot.
While Eric was in the hospital and the doctor had predicted that he would not make it, I said to myself “that is impossible.” I mean it is God we talking about and He can work miracles and wonders. But then He didn’t wake up and I began to get worried and completely connected with the pain Pastor Newman and his family went through.
Through moments of low, we begin to question our faith. We ask ourselves if there is really a God or if He really cares. I want to reassure you that it is pretty normal for us humans to question our faith regardless of our spiritual journey but in those times in our lives, we have to say to the devil, ‘not today, not ever! Get out!‘ The devil uses times like these to lie to us and make us turn our back away.
Few things I learned from the movie:
- Forgiveness: We need to be able to forgive those who have hurt us no matter how hard it can be. One thing I know about forgiveness is that it releases you from a bondage grudge and hatred put you in. You become free and your mind is burden free. Pastor Newman and his family had to forgive Maria Hernandez to be able to move on with life.
- Gratitude: John focused on all the wrong things going on in his life that he didn’t realize how much he truly had. He let all the outside pressure wear on him that all he expressed only anger and became a distasteful man. His only daughter was unsure if he truly loved her. We need to start appreciating and thanking the Lord every day for the blessings we have. Like they say, “you don’t know what you have till you lose it.”
- Pride: Pride can prevent us from experiencing God’s favor in our lives. When David and John first met, they both weren’t ready to accept one another and put aside any egoistic nature. But when they rethought their actions and made up, we see blessings coming to them. John got the money he needed to pay off his debt and David got the project done by a good contractor.
In the end, I remembered this Bible verse; ‘ In the same way I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born,” says the Lord. “If I cause you the pain, I will not stop you from giving birth to your new nation,” says your God.’ (Isaiah 66:9 NCV)
Today, let’s make an effort to focus on God and the good things He has done in our lives. In the midst of what we are going through, let’s make a conscious effort to talk to God and spend time in His word.
Happy New Month!!
